Amilla Fushi Resort
We’re gonna make you an offer you can’t refuse – how about spending a tropical-fantasy holiday on a Maldivian island where it’s all blue skies, pearly white beaches, crystal-clear waters and breezy island living? Welcome to the alluring utopia that is the Maldives.
The brainchild of island chief Tom McLoughlin from Australia (ex GM of Huvafen Fushi), Amilla Fushi is a super-luxury scattering of bright-white villas (or like they call it: island homes) on a sun-bleached freckle that’s part of the exotic Baa Atoll. Whirring in by seaplane, you’ll recline in ultra-big rooms – or their outdoor pools, hypnotized by views over the sparkling Indian Ocean or turquoise lagoon.
Amilla Fushi in Baa Atoll, a Unesco World Biosphere Reserve and home to some of the richest waters in the Maldives, is one of the newest Maldivian luxury resorts.
Best for: big families without buoyant bank balances and honeymooners with film-star salaries. Glitz and glamour? Not at all. Unlike other five-star resorts in the Maldives, Amilla Fushi is all about laidback lagoon luxury. The Maldives might seem like they’re more suitable for only honeymooners than hollering children, but when it comes to families, this place has it nailed. So that’s one thing that’s brilliant. Another is there’s an Instagrammable infinity pool perfect for swimming and soaking off jetlag.
Sleek from the outside, stylish from the inside, Amilla Fushi’s luxury villas offer just everything you could ever dream of. Expect a visually enticing design of colorful floor tiles and modern teak furniture, supersized beds, big Aesop bath products, sommelier-stocked wine fridges and much more. Romantics will be in love with their overwater villa, its sun-soaked deck flirting with the water that dazzles with perfect clarity, while families staying in a multiple bedroom beach villa or treehouse-style villa will be in seventh heaven. Villa number 301, facing the sandbank & the lagoon, was our island home for one week. Our butler Saddam Hussein (seriously), made sure we felt so pampered here every second of our stay. This perfect paradise playground in the Maldives is a luxury resort where you must kick off your shoes, kick back and surrender.
You may struggle to leave your room at first, but try, because Amilla Fushi also has six different restaurants plus a gourmet café and deli. Maldivian Sling or Mai Tai cocktail? Chilled Prawns with Avocado & Mango Salsa? Wagya cut of the day with parmesan & truffle French fries with creamed spinach? Mmmmm.. we thought so. A fantastic breakfast buffet is served at Fresh, while Amilla’s breakfast menu includes Belgian waffles with smoked salmon, feta, cucumber & horseradish, Croque madame with turkey ham, cheese & egg and Porridge with maple syrup, cinnamon, toasted nuts & berries. The food “Bazaar”, centered around the glittering giant pool, is where you can choose between 5 restaurants, order from all the different menus and sit wherever you like – either inside or by the pool. Whether you want tapas, Asian delights or a simple meal like fish & chips or signature pizza from Joe’s, it’s all here. Perhaps the star of the show is the overwater fine-dining restaurant Lonu, where the Aussie celeb chef Luke Mangan is in charge. Here, it’s all about romantic sunsets and finger-licking good food (the sashimi of kingfish is a must-try). Don’t forget to check out the impressive wine cellar and try some of Beatrice’s stunning wines, cheeses & charcuterie. Tip: the Iberico Ham from Spain is absolutely the best.
Relaxation is the name of the game here, but there’s a huge amount to keep everyone beaming on this pristine, white-sand utopia in the Maldives. Children can spent their days in Amilla Fushi’s kids club and when you’re done sunning & swimming, try jet skiing or hit the Javvu spa. The sea-facing gym is full of the newest fitness equipment. They also offer yoga, but there wasn’t a teacher when we were there and the yoga pavilion should be sea-facing instead of amidst tropical foliage. Dive junkie? Baa Atoll with its rich goral gardens, colorful reef fishes and warm crystal clear water is one of the best diving choices in the Maldives and worldwide. We were lucky bastards as we saw lots of dolphins after our amazing dive.
Amilla Fushi in the Maldives is waiting to be discovered! So, what are you waiting for?
