Be Tulum Hotel
On the southern tip of the Riviera Maya, the former hippie outpost of Tulum has become Mexico‘s most stylish beach destination. Think of miles of raw, idyllic coastline dotted with good-looking casitas, swaying palm trees, Mexican designer villas and shady palapas. Furthermore, Tulum has its fair share of open-air Caribbean eateries and boho chic boutiques for the free-spirited traveller. We love Tulum’s allure. It is rustic yet cool, small and easy to navigate.
Dreaming of a jungle-meets-beach Mexican hideout? You’ve found it. Tucked within a tropical forest by the Caribbean Sea, Be Tulum Hotel along the famous beach road, Boca Paila, is where you can experience Tulum at its best. It’s the less crowded part of this hotel strip and just 10 minutes away from the Tulum Archaeological Zone.
Founded & created by Argentinian architect Sebastian Sas (also from Nomade Tulum Hotel next door), Be Tulum Hotel is where moneyed young Americans, hip barefoot dreamers, spiritual serenity seekers and beautiful bronzed bohemians from everywhere around the globe celebrate life, love and the wonder of nature. But why do they love it? Brimming with style, Be Tulum Hotel embraces you in a massive tropical hug and it’s terribly relaxed too. Be Tulum means jungle luxury with a laidback boho spirit as well as a chill beach club vibe. What about spirituality? There’s also an emphasis on wellbeing, with a sublime spacious spa across the street and a gorgeous yoga pavilion offering the best yoga classes in Tulum.
Any downsides? The service, mainly on the beach and in Be Tulum’s hotel restaurant, wasn’t so smooth and a little bit slow. Sometimes it felt like the staff were on holiday too. Probably this is all part of the town’s easygoing nature. Kids over 12 are welcome, although we think at this hip hideaway along Mexico’s Caribbean coast it’s more about grown-up indulgence (more barefoot tequila shots; less barefoot toddlers).
Totally in harmony with nature, Be Tulum Hotel’s magazine-ready décor definitely fulfils the modern traveller’s aesthetic demands. It’s a fresh mix of raw materials, haute hippie details, Mexican pieces and a bohemian beach-chic look. Truly inspiring! At night, they create a rustic romantic atmosphere with hanging lanterns, torches and candles around the property and even in your room. Without a doubt, Be Tulum Hotel is style-wise our favourite place to stay in Tulum.
Cocooned by the jungle, the hotel’s 20 suites at the end of a winding path through lush foliage is where you re-discover the joy of pure relaxation. Inside, natural materials such as stone, leather and bamboo are combined to give a laidback, tropical luxury. Be Tulum’s suites are all equipped with cowhide rugs, outdoor showers, butterfly chairs and huge beds (you will lose your other half in the middle of the night). Don’t expect TV’s or minibars. Outside, you can either find a plunge pool with hammocks (ground floor suites) or Jacuzzi (first floor suites). If it’s space and sea view you want, book the Ocean Suite offering sunset views over the lagoon of Sian Ka’an Reserve. We highly recommend to opt for a suite on the first floor because the ground floor suites are less private.
Days are filled with breakfasts with your toes in the sand (try the Be Smoothie and yummy yoghurt & granola), morning sun salutations, siestas under palm-thatched palapas and happily drinking up Tulum in all its boho-glam glory. In between, hit Be Tulum’s Yaan Wellness Spa for exclusive Mexican therapies or cycle around on your beach cruiser and fully enjoy the simple, carefree Tulum lifestyle. Evenings kick off with live music, before seafood dinners on the beach.
This boutique-luxe wild wonderland in Tulum is just the ultimate place to bliss out in style!
