We’ve got a serious crush on Barcelona with its endless list of hip bars, cool restaurants, stylish boutique stays and luxury design hotels. Searching for some of the city’s best suites offering the luxury of space? Travel like the A-list and stay in style at El Palauet Living Barcelona.

This palatial property can be found on pretty Passeig de Gràcia 113 in Barcelona’s well-heeled Eixample district. Here, chic designer shops abound and Gaudí’s fantastical façades beckon from every street corner.

Erected in 1906, El Palauet’s five-story building is an extraordinary example of Modernism (the sumptuous Catalan version of Art Nouveau). This modernista mansion sitting atop Barcelona’s most exclusive boulevard is created by the Catalan architect Pere Falqués. He is known for his ornate lampposts jutting from ceramic tile benches that are sidewalk landmarks on Passeig de Gràcia. Pere Falqués was a contemporary of Antoni Gaudí whose acclaimed buildings are nearby. Meticulously restored, El Palauet Living’s interiors blend the old (an original crystal dome, mosaic tiles, stained glass windows and opulent frescoes) with the new (white minimalist interiors).

Hotel? What hotel? This sumptuous property is your home. Okay, perhaps “home away from home” is a more accurate description. Home to only six spacious self-catering suites, El Palauet Living Barcelona offers designer accommodation right at the heart of Barcelona‘s upmarket shopping area. Stylish and ultra-luxurious, El Palauet Living Barcelona is the boutique stay of choice for high-flying families without buoyant bank balances and design-savvy couples with film-star salaries. We have stayed at fantastic hotels in Barcelona, but El Palauet may top the list for its sense of space and location.

Opened in December 2010, El Palauet Living Barcelona is the perfect spot to base yourself. The very private, one-of-a-kind residences grace El Palauet Living’s interiors with its carved-wood doors, original ceilings, delicate lighting and design pieces from Starck, Jacobsen, Saarinen and Eames, among other key 20th-century designers. Facing either the Passeig de Gràcia or Tibidabo Mountain, each bright apartment-style suite features two bedrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, living room as well as two bathrooms. Some of the suites have a balcony. In the rooms, the 21st-century ultra-modern décor and luxuries harmonize perfectly with the preserved 1906 modernista artistry of this landmark building. The best room? We’d recommend you to splash out on the Principal Tibidabo Suite with its stunning sun room. Any downsides? We were fighting with some technology in the room. It wasn’t working properly. Normally, you can select music and operate the mood lighting and temperature system through a touchscreen control.

Your personal assistant makes your breakfast every morning and can arrange anything you want from a personal trainer session and nanny service to private guided tours and ordering food from nearby restaurants. Furthermore, in your suite you can find a long list of recommended museums, tourist attractions and the best restaurants in Barcelona. Unfortunately, we found the quality of El Palauet Living’s breakfast not good enough for the high price. It could be better. The orange juice didn’t taste freshly squeezed and the sliced pineapple wasn’t ripe. Moreover, a good freshly-baked croissant should be flaky and crisp on the outside, and tender and moist inside. Although, it didn’t really bother us, because the overall experience of El Palauet Living Barcelona was really great. There’s no gym but the rooftop complete with a massage room, a Finnish sauna, Jacuzzi and waterbeds is the added bonus.

There’s just no substitute for having your very own Barcelona address. Just try it to believe it!
