What’s hot in Amsterdam? Morgan & Mees, a stylish stay including a popular restaurant & bar, gets a lot of love in Amsterdam since its opening in early 2015.

One of the founders of Morgan & Mees, Myrthe Slotemaker, had the idea of creating a place to eat, drink & stay where trendy locals and global boutique hotel lovers perfectly blend. Morgan is the international traveler and Mees is the local, they meet at the bar.

In 2014, Myrthe and her two other business partners (Roger Peetoom, owner of beach club Republiek, and Marius Haverkamp from Flow Works) decided to completely revamp an old 1880s girl’s orphanage, on the edge of the Jordan and the Amsterdam-West neighborhood. The result? A transformed corner building displaying various styles. Expect a good-looking mix of monumental characteristics, modern elements and vintage design with a classic French flair. Anne Claus, the wife of Roger Peetoom, was responsible for the interior styling of Hotel Morgan & Mees. She has definitely a great sense of style.

Travel-savvy style junkies will be charmed by Hotel Morgan & Mees, an extraordinary place with extraordinary heart. It’s definitely not a full-service hotel (no gym, no spa), more a small boutique stay and local favorite full of character.

Upstairs, the just nine individually designed rooms have a restful vibe and all range in size & lay-out. Some rooms are a little on the snug side. Ultra-stylish & sophisticated, the rooms are equipped with three-layered Coco-mat beds, rainforest showers plus little balconies. We love all the different pillows, the herringbone oak floors and artworks from Anne’s mother. Need to know: the duplex rooms (with a bed upstairs) look unique, but are not so comfortable. Sleepwalkers should absolutely book one of the other hotel rooms at Morgan & Mees in Amsterdam.

Downstairs, modern Mediterranean cuisine awaits you in the Morgan & Mees restaurant, while cocktail aficionados knock back serious drinks at the bar, including the Monkey 47 Gin, a blend of grapefruit, rosemary, pepper & fever tree Indian tonic. A great terrace, perfect for during summer, is the added bonus.
