Tempted by the Swiss Alps? Perched above Saanen, a quiet village neighbouring Gstaad, Huus Hotel beckons. It’s a designer destination outside Berner Oberland’s most glamorous resort offering winter sports, summer pleasures and relaxation. Occupying a fairytale setting of stubbornly authentic chalet architecture, richly forested landscapes and rolling peaks of the Bernese Alps, Huus Hotel Gstaad is where the world’s troubles seem super far away. Here, get a unique taste of modern Alpine life and collect magnificent mountain moments.

Its out-of-the-way location means you can’t reach much on foot, but there is a public bus stop at Huus Hotel, a ski shuttle, and three train stations nearby – Gstaad, Saanen and Schönried. Furthermore, it’s advisable to bring a car for easy access to the 220 kilometres of all-level ski runs between 1,000 and 3,000 metres above sea level. Two Range Rovers are also available for complimentary hire.

Not only is Huus Hotel Gstaad an adventurers’ dream with its abundance of outdoor experiences in the surrounding Bernese Oberland, but also loved by the style junkies thanks to its wow-worthy design. Even better, a huge range of activities is included in the rate from ski lessons, guided snowshoe walks and sledging in winter to rafting, mountain biking and climbing during summer. Also, bring children of all ages – Huus has its own private ski school, dedicated kids club and special restaurant for the little ones – and everyone will go nuts. Dogs are welcome, too. What’s more? Intimate and with a relaxed, put-your-feet-up vibe, it has a spacious spa – including an indoor pool, multiple saunas plus massage rooms – and a mountain-view restaurant designed to attract Gstaad‘s chalet-staying hipsters.

Conceived by Lebanese Marwan Naja & Tyrolian Günter Weilguni, this reimagined chalet opened in December 2016 after an extreme makeover. Now, it feels like the perfect blend of an authentic Alpine hut and a luxury designer hideaway. Expect smartly dressed staff, sunny balconies, seven stories and a striking yet homely interior by Erik Nissen Johansen, the founder of Swedish design studio Stylt. This place is handsome to the core with plenty of style and its strong sense of place – think climbing rope installations and displays of outdoor gear. We particularly loved the huge living room, the heart of Huus Hotel, where you can find inviting sofas, personal touches like musical instruments, hand-picked coffee-table books and the highest bottle wall in the region mirroring the shape of the mountains beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Divided in three categories, the 136 bedrooms at Huus Hotel Gstaad are little snooze boxes featuring plush furnishings such as heavenly Hästens beds, cosy banquette seating, warming pendulum lights and Swiss army blankets to wrap yourself in on the balcony or terrace (all rooms have one). The rooms are either north-facing, sunnier south-facing, or south-facing with a restricted view. We found the copper details, accents of rich plum and smokey-blue walls really gorgeous, while the in-room tablets, the Zeiss binoculars to bring the mountains even closer and Mammut rucksacks are smart extras.

At the end of an exhilarating day on the slopes, swap the mountain for something more chill. Stiff muscles are massaged in the spa, soak in the indoor pool and enjoy food with a focus on delectable regional products in one of Huus’ dining spaces.

Life is an adventure… Hold on tight and enjoy the ride!
