Restaurant Hotel de Goudfazant

Huddled among industrial buildings on IJ waterfront, this converted warehouse in the up and coming Noord (North) of Amsterdam is a big hit. Take a cab or catch the ferry, it’s worth the trip out of Amsterdam City. Well, with an off-the-beaten-track location like this it has got to be good, and it is.

Restaurant Hotel de Goudfazant scores highly in Amsterdam. But why? Firstly, its name is cool yet tricky (not really a hotel). Secondly, its warehouse setting is impressive. Here, everything is different and that’s exactly what we like about this uber-hip hotspot in Amsterdam. Furthermore, Hotel de Goudfazant offers extremely tasty French food and a friendly service, which are sometimes hard to find in restaurants in Amsterdam. Owned by Niels Wouters en Bart Oosterveer, Hotel de Goudfazant is one of the city’s most exciting dining spots.

We love Hotel de Goudfazant’s coolest feature: classic super-cars like an old Porsche 911 or a Ferrari Testarossa are dotted around the restaurant. It’s not a drive-in restaurant, although we’ve heard if you have a unique car you can bring it in! How cool is that?

The capital’s Hotel de Goudfazant is surprisingly unpretentious and possesses a laidback, casual air. Besides, Hotel de Goudfazant looks more like an elegantly shabby canteen than an haute cuisine French restaurant. It’s huge and peppered with rows of tables and canteen-like red chairs plus an enormous eye-catching chandelier made from milk bottles.

Expect creative, quality food and good portions here. The bisque, charcuterie, lobster and roasted chicken are some of the menu’s stars. What’s for dessert? Try the Baba au Rhum – mouthwatering!
