Six Senses Laamu Resort
For the ultimate feeling of going back to nature, sun-drenched days and star-studded nights, there’s no better holiday destination than the Maldives. The marvelous Maldives is by most estimations the closest you get to paradise on earth and the ideal choice for lovebirds.
Ready to soak up the sun and chill out in an eco-chic ambience? The best place for this is Six Senses Laamu, the only resort within the Southern underdeveloped Laamu Atoll, deep in the Indian Ocean, surrounded by a beautiful coral house reef. The Six Senses hotel chain is known for bringing its contemporary eco-luxe designs to off-the-radar spots. Take a domestic flight from Malé International Airport and hop on a luxury speedboat for a short trip to this totally tropical treasure in the Maldives.
This is a kick-your-shoes-off kind of holiday where it’s all about rustic relaxation, faultless facilities, eco excellence, stunning sunsets, bountiful beaches, fantastic flavors and sublime spa sensations. Ok, you get the picture. It’s just nature-tastic! We, as big fans of this palm-dotted paradise of peace, pleasure & pureness and other Six Senses hotels, think the wow-factor peaks at Laamu’s Six Senses Spa, the reason we keep coming back here. Spend an hour here, and you’ll see.
Offering a really unforgettable setting as well as a sense of stylish simplicity, this eco wonder in the Maldives exudes rustic castaway chic. The visionaries behind this Tarzan & Jane tropical playground: Six Senses Architecture & Design itself in cooperation with Habita Architects. All has been built with a minimal eco footprint and reveals how well style & sustainability go hand in hand. So inspiring & innovative!
Integrating the organic, the sophisticated, the handcrafted, the rustic and the high-tech, Laamu’s villas are either nestled in the lush tropical forest or hover over the turquoise lagoon. Fancy a private pool? Six Senses Laamu resort just added pools at some beach & overwater villas to make your stay more luxurious and comfortable. Room tip: ask for the overwater sunrise villa number 19, where we stayed, which is the last one of jetty A and perfect for privacy & poolside posing. For your very own piece of beach and private sunset-gazing tower, opt for the beach villas, while the lagoon or ocean villas have enough lounge areas to chill out in the shade or under the hot Maldivian sun. Searching for family friendly accommodation? Check out the Family Beach Villas featuring private swimming pools and an extra bedroom specially designed for children. The impressive new ocean view 7,858 square feet (730 square meters) Beach Villa with two bedrooms as well as a pool is the pinnacle of pure luxury. In all the eco-luxe villas you can find mosquito nets, heavenly outdoor bathrooms (some with access to the pools), stylish suitcase-like sinks and the latest technology including Bose entertainment systems, iPods & docking stations plus huge flat screen TV’s. We absolutely love Six Senses Laamu’s attention to eco-design detail, personal & pampered service of your own GEM (Guest Experience Maker) and the bicycles including your own initials or “Just Married” sign at the back.
You’re at the right place for a constant temptation of tasty food. Whatever the time of day, and whatever takes your fancy, several restaurants at Six Senses Laamu resort in the Maldives are ready and waiting to thrill your taste buds. Expect parlor’s 40 different flavors of ice cream & sorbet, yummy salads from the organic garden, Japanese delights from Zen, an extensive & ultra-good breakfast at Longitude, Leaf’s culinary masterpieces mainly from locally-sourced ingredients, Sip Sip’s sublime snacks and Chill’s killer cocktails which taste healthy instead of like alcohol (good excuse to drink more!). Well, we know it’s not so easy to handle all these temptations. Lush & laidback Leaf Restaurant, with its idyllic ambiance atop the organic garden and facing the sea, is our personal favorite (leave stilettos and Gucci loafers behind). Sip Sip by the huge pool on the beach offers great casual lunches. The private BBQ on the sandbank – also known as the best wedding proposal place (lucky me!) – is a must-try, while a castaway-style picnic on a deserted island is perfect for an afternoon of sun, sea, sand, swims and selfies. Surf & Turf beach BBQ’s, Cocktail making classes, Whisky Tastings, Italian Wine Dinners, Wine & Chocolate tastings, Sunken Table beach dinners and lots of other dining & drinking experiences are also available here. Or why not dine in? Six Senses Laamu hotel offers fantastic in-villa dining for intimate & private moments. The possibilities are just endless here.
After filling your belly with so much tasty food, work out some more at the giant gym with a view (personal trainer Hazza is amazing), attend one of the daily yoga classes or try one of the fitness activities, if you want to come home with abs so sharp they could cut a pineapple. The gym is so state of the art it could turn the flabbiest couch potato into a fitness freak. Whether you’re a surf dude, dive junkie, spa fan or beach babe, at Six Senses Laamu Resort there’s something for everyone. If you’re beach bored, you can make friends with green turtles underwater, surf dudes can head straight for the Yin Yang wave, and other dudes, who like their thrills with a dash less danger, are happy to show their tricks on a wakeboard. If you’re not a dare devil, watch the dolphins performing aqua aerobics during sunset. After, immerse yourself with holistic spa treatments in one of the ‘bird nest’ treatment rooms, followed by a candlelit winemakers dinner or lobster BBQ on the beach. Before bedtime, if you like, you can even watch a movie at the outdoor jungle cinema. How cool is that?
Laamu’s Six Senses Spa, perfect for jungle de-stressing & de-toxing, deserves a special mention. We found the Six Senses Spa, where you feel one with nature, so spoiling, superb & serene and spend almost our entire stay here. Offering a really sublime & unforgettable spa experience, the Six Senses Spa at this healthy hideaway in the Maldives, uses fresh natural spa products, the Six Senses Spa therapists are highly skilled and the spa menu is as long as your leg and includes lots of award-winning treatments. Think of amazing Ayurvedic therapies, locally inspired treatments, oh-so-divine massages, fantastic facials and top-to-toe body treatments. Without a doubt, spa junkies will discover a new level of wellness at this star spa player at Six Senses Laamu. Truly Zentastic!
Another reason we love this luxurious spa hotel is the wellness & fitness calendar with a range of activities including Island running, different forms of yoga & meditation (some are complimentary and some not – try the Aerial yoga), Intense core training with the personal trainer Hazza, Pilates and wellness workshops such as the Thai Stretch and Healing Hands workshop. Six Senses Laamu’s yoga pavilion, built atop the great gym, can easily win The Style Junkies’ best yoga spot award.
Do you feel stressed, tired, unhappy or do you need just a little more encouragement to unplug & unwind? Try Six Senses Laamu’s Yogic Detox program for 4 to 10 days to charge your chakras, cleanse your aura, clear out your head space, rediscover your inner self, digitally switch-off and remove toxins. Sounds impressive, don’t you think? It’s a must-book holistic yet result-driven program for detox devotees and yogis like us. Days are filled with Ayurvedic lifestyle consultations, detox spa treatments, private hatha yoga & meditation sessions and breathing exercises (pranayama). Ensuring relaxation and rebalancing, the Six Senses Yogic Detox program also includes at least one day of Puriti (drinking detox juices & teas) and the rest of the days you can only eat raw fruit & veggies to boost your digestive system. Be warned: we know the lobster quesadillas from Sip Sip are so tempting, but don’t try to cheat and give-up. It’s life-changing and you’ll feel so much lighter & brighter afterwards! Just try it to believe it!
