Six Senses Laamu Resort
For the ultimate feeling of going back to nature, sun drenched days and star studded nights, there’s no better destination than the Maldives. The Maldives is by most estimations the closest you get to paradise on earth, and the ideal choice for lovebirds.
Ready to soak up the sun and chill out in an eco-chic ambience? The ultimate place for this is Six Senses Laamu, the only resort within the underdeveloped Laamu atoll. The Six Senses hotel chain is known for bringing its contemporary eco-luxe designs to off-the-radar spots.
This eco wonder in the Maldives looks like the playground from Tarzan and Jane, with beach villas nestled in lush tropical forest and water villas. Some of Six Senses Laamu’s villas have plunge pools, but personally we don’t think you need a pool in the Maldives with the turquoise ocean in front of you. All has been built with a minimal eco footprint, and reveals how well style and sustainability go hand in hand. For your very own piece of beach and private sunset-gazing tower, opt for the beach villas, and others hover over the lagoon with enough lounge areas to chill out in the shade or under the hot sun. In all the eco-chic and luxurious villas you can find mosquito nets, outdoor bathrooms with rain showers, old suitcase-like sinks, Bose entertainment systems, iPods and docking stations, huge flat screen TV’s and much more luxury amenities.
Whether you’re a surf dude, dive junkie, spa fan or beach babe, at Six Senses Laamu Resort there’s something for everyone. If you’re beach bored, you can make friends with green turtles underwater, surf dudes can head straight for the Yin Yang wave, and other dudes, who like their thrills with a dash less danger, are happy to show their tricks on a wakeboard. If you’re not a dare devil, choose to catch the fiery sunset and spot hundreds of dolphins. After, immerse yourself with holistic treatments (our favorite is the Reiki therapy), in one of the ‘bird nest’ treatment rooms from the Six Senses Spa, followed by a candlelit winemakers or lobster dinner on the beach. Before bedtime, If you like, you can even watch a movie at the outdoor jungle cinema. For the most spectacular experience book a private BBQ dinner on the sandbank, also known as the perfect wedding proposal place (lucky me!).
There are a couple of things you should be aware of before booking your stay at Six Senses Laamu. First: some of the most delicious drinks and organic dishes you have ever tasted reside here. For example the 40 different flavors of ice cream and sorbet, delicious salads from the organic garden, and the fresh cocktails from Manju which taste healthy instead of like alcohol (good excuse to drink more!). After filling your belly with so much tasty food, work out some more at the gym or attend a yoga class, if you want to come home with abs so sharp they could cut a pineapple. We think the Leaf Restaurant has the most idyllic and special ambiance. Second: it will be very, very difficult to return to “real life” after staying at Six Senses Laamu in the Maldives.
