Peace and quiet are not the usual city-break accoutrements, but The Chedi Muscat hotel, 20 minutes away from the hustle & bustle of Old Muscat, breaks the rules. Situated on the shores of the azure Gulf of Oman, close to the main tourist attractions, 3 golf courses and Muscat’s airport, this accomplished player was the region’s first exclusive resort. It remains a dreamy haven, the perfect escape for those who are craving some sun, sand and seaside serenity in the lap of luxury.

The faultless facilities, tranquillity of the place, amazing Arabic architecture, soothing pools – 3 in total – and immense immaculate gardens, all combine to maximize the sensation of being in a heavenly place. Need we say more? Yes, it’s madly expensive, but we were truly impressed by this ridiculously relaxing refuge. It is easy to understand why The Chedi Muscat is so well-liked by well-heeled Arabs and Europeans.

Imaginatively fusing a minimalistic Asian style with subtle Arabic nuances, The Chedi Muscat hotel is an archi-lovers’ fantasy with its Zen gardens of symmetrical simplicity, Moorish water gardens and elements of authentic Omani forts and houses. We’ll never forget the hotel’s astonishingly beautiful & magical setting at night with its flickering torches, romantic candles, colourful lanterns and dark corners with shisha pipes and low seating. Prepare to be enchanted!

Offering views of either the Gulf of Oman, the water gardens, the city or the Hajar Mountains, The Chedi Muscat resort has 158 Asia-meets-Arabia-luxe rooms & suites divided into five categories. Room-tip: don’t book a standard Serai Room, which we tested, because the beds are too small, the bathroom lay-out is not so comfy and the windows do not open. Also, the views from the rooms at the back of the hotel facing the city can be a little bit disappointing, so make sure you choose the right one. Nice detail: the large & luxurious Acqua di Parma bath products. None of the rooms have terraces or balconies except from the Deluxe Club Terrace Rooms as well as the Chedi Club Suites. The Chedi Club Suites are nothing short of spectacular, thanks to the Insta-perfect sea views. All the rooms are simplistic, restful retreats, but the real appeal lies outside, courtesy of brilliant on-site facilities.

Serving Middle Eastern, European, Indian and Asian cuisine, The Restaurant – the hotel’s fusion eatery – has quickly become the place for Omanis and expats alike. Our favourite dish: the roasted tamarind duck with carrot & apple salsa and jasmine rice. Prefer something beachside and al fresco? Head to The Chedi’s Beach restaurant, a romantic seafront patio where you can spoil yourself with fresh seafood and pairing wines, while listening to the waves washing up on the shore. We highly recommend to book a table in advance. This perfect piece of Omani beauty offers something for everyone with its six restaurants. There’s even a pastry counter where we couldn’t stop staring at the super tasty macarons.

Whether you’re lingering over breakfast – there’s pretty much anything you could dream of -, lying lazily by the region’s longest pool, or drifting off on your massage bed, this is a turn-back-the-clock resort that guarantees plenty of relaxation and indulgence.

Sport lover? Embrace your inner Buddha with a yoga class, challenge your lover for a Nadal Federer classic or act like you’re Tiger Woods on the 18-hole Almouj golf course designed by Greg Norman. The giant gym – maybe the most luxurious one we’ve ever seen – should definitely not be missed. Think of top-range Technogym equipment, Power Plates, a Kinesis wall and Pilates corner. High- and low-impact group exercise classes as well as personal training sessions are available to further ensure that your fitness goals are achieved. Stiff muscles? For wow-factor wellbeing, there’s a stunning 1,500-square-metre spa at The Chedi Muscat hotel that will help you rejuvenate, relax and recharge. And that’s barely scratched the surface.

If you can afford it, this is the place to be, end of discussion!
