A 2000-year-old city that still stands at the leading edge of design, architecture, fashion, cuisine, art and culture, London is the perfect destination for an unforgettable city break.

Ian Schrager, the visionary hotelier and the man who gifted the world with Studio 54, is back in London with his newest hotel. This UK outpost of his buzzy Edition brand is a project in partnership with Marriot Hotels & Resorts. Here, he gives us a hip and happening lounge bar, Punch Room, Berners Tavern restaurant with a Parisian feeling to its interior, a nightclub and oak paneled luxurious rooms all under one roof.

Housed in a landmark Georgian building on Berners Street in Fitzrovia, The London Edition, launched in September 2013, is a wow-worthy hotel. Designed with London in mind, the stylish interiors by Yabu Pushelberg hospitality-design firm are a dynamic fusion of old and new. The multi-functional lobby makes a great entrance, though it’s the restored stucco ceiling that seduces the eye. Whether it be fun or work, The London Edition Hotel is a hot place to stay where history, amazing modern design and innovation meet.

In the fairly light and minimal rooms, where again classic meets modern, you can find old masters, reimagined in contemporary photographs. The hotel rooms are all the same, priced by size. A light oak or dark walnut theme with a neutral palette dominate in The London Edition’s rooms. A few rooms have baths, while all the rooms offer super comfortable beds plus faux fur throws that add a feeling of warmth. We stayed in an ultra-relaxing Loft Suite (no. 417) with sitting area, huge rain shower and freestanding bath. The one-of-a-kind Penthouse Suite, surrounded by a terrace, is the pinnacle of luxury.

The public spaces from The London Edition Hotel really wow. The Lobby Bar is a super-slick hangout place perfect for drinking exquisite cocktails in style. This stunning space with marble walls, elegant seating and a giant silver egg-like sculpture attracts the media and fashion crowd, but no one will feel out of place here. To the right of the lobby there’s the picture-lined Berners Tavern restaurant where bronze chandeliers inspired by New York’s Grand Central Terminal really grab the attention. Behind the reception area is the Punch Room. This reservations-only drinking den is intimate, looks like a stylish English country house library and serves, of course, yummy punches. In the basement, there’s a soundproofed nightclub. Personally, our favorite spots are the Lobby Bar where stylish guests and trendy locals mingle and Jason Atherton’s Berners Tavern which offers a best-of-British menu.
