The Omnia Mountain Lodge
Fly away from the everyday at The Omnia in Zermatt. Set right in the centre above the rest and close to the clouds, with the Matterhorn as their neighbour, surrounded by no less than 38 peaks taller than 4.000 metres, this gem is a high-design ski lodge.
This modern hideaway is one of the sleekest hotels in Zermatt, and another great place to stay for skiing in style. The Omnia Mountain Lodge is a member of the Design Hotels Group, and comes complete with the kind of minimalistic, eclectic interior from New York-based architect Ali Tayar.
Situated on the rock above everyday life, you can reach The Omnia by a tunnel and then an elevator brings you to the lobby. This lobby is open-plan with a central fireplace dividing the library from the main area and the bar. You can dine in style at the famous restaurant and choose from the modern fine cuisine menu. Après-ski, enjoy cocktails on a sheepskin-covered chair at the outdoor terrace lounge. And The Omnia also boasts a special space called the ‘cavern’. This multifunctional space is a club, conference room and cinema and is built in a cave.
The 30 rooms and suites at The Omnia all vary in their layout and design and include private balconies. Most rooms have a unique panoramic view of the surrounding snow peaks. Some of the amenities offered include fireplaces, elegant baths with bay windows, Jacuzzis and even saunas.
Ever wondered what the Matterhorn looks like at sunset? From a Jacuzzi? Find it out at the wellness area. Here they offer a pool with its enormous glass windows and subtle lighting, outdoor Jacuzzi, Turkish bath, caldarium, Finnish sauna, yoga and pilates, specialized massages, and a smart fitness centre finishes things off nicely.
Good to know: This sky-high Swiss lodge is more for lovers of urban chic than alpine charm.
